Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is an aesthetic skin treatment for issues such as stretch marks, acne scars, and wrinkles. The microneedling treatment device is a small pen-like tool that has 12 ultra-fine tiny needles at the tip. Dr. Santos applies a numbing cream for your comfort and then uses the micropen to create small holes in your skin. This prompts your body to start the self-healing process.

After microneedling your body produces new collagen, which helps fill in acne scar depressions, stretch marks, and deep folds on the face. Microneedling can smooth your skin, eliminate wrinkles, reduce hyperpigmentation like melasma, and can give you overall rejuvenated skin.

Dr. Marissa Santos enhances the results of microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment.

What is PRP in microneedling?

PRP comes from your own blood. Your blood contains a huge amount of incredibly powerful healing factors, but to concentrate them and get the best from them, you need platelet extraction. Dr. Santos takes a small sample of blood from your arm and then uses a specialized centrifugal force machine to spin the blood to extract your PRP.

Dr. Santos infuses the tiny microneedling punctures with your PRP. The powerful platelets will move into the deepest part of your skin to enhance and speed up your new collagen growth and skin rejuvenation.

When will I see results after microneedling?

Many patients notice microneedling results very quickly. You may notice a boost in the overall look of your treatment area or even in your whole-body appearance. Your skin will improve more and more in the next few weeks. Collagen production and healing are at their peak after two weeks, so it's best to wait around a month between treatments so you can see full results if you're having multiple microneedling treatment sessions.

How many microneedling treatments do I need?

It all depends on what your concerns are and on how your body responds. Most patients get the optimal benefit from three to six sessions in total. Dr. Santos will work with you to determine the perfect treatment plan so that you can get the results you want.
